Hi chaps
On paper the fixture looked OK …. We had no fixture for last Sat so I put us on the bureau!!!
Nice little fixture came along with Chiswick 3rds…..sounded alright
However on arrival they did ask which league we played in and how often we trained!!!
I explained that we adopted the Bulldog method approach to training and felt that discussion and tactical talks over a pint on a Thursday evening by a warm fire was more the type of training a Bulldog would consider in addition of course to his thrice weekly appearance at the local gym!!
Anyway, as the game developed past half time it was pretty obvious this side with only 13 players was a few notches above us and difficult to restrain. The bald headed no 12 …premature baldness as he had a high pitched voice!......caused havoc…also spoke with a Oz accent!
We had good patches of play that produced a fine interception at centre by Haymaker Nick who then ran from the half way line to bang down a good try under the posts for Roger to convert!!
We did have some grim patches of play but quite frankly we did play a rather young fit side with obvious planned moves so in the circumstances all was not lost.
We were missing that oomph and drive that somehow seemed to be overtaken by the urgency to try and cover the game!
Jamie scored a cracking try and still had that burst of speed that put him over just inside the corner posts …two great individual tries.
We were more concerned with defence than attacking and many good tackles were put in but Chiswick were both fast and sharp and took us by surprise and before we knew it the second half was over and it was back to The White Swan to watch the game…..SHAME THE PUB CLOSED AT 6PM ON AN IINTERNATIONAL DAY BUT WE WERE VERY WARMLY WELCOMED BY THE EEL PIE STAFF!!!
The final score….OK we lost but the half time score was 12 -7 with a final score against us at our ceiling level of 12 points to 30!!! We never loose by more than 30 points!
This week we are home to London Irish with an early K.O. and £50 from the Bulldog fund for a few jugs afterwards. Hopefully the White Swan will be open but I will check out and make other arrangements if is the case
Good action photos by Tony and good to see our new prop Tim very much in the game
