Hi chaps

Game abandon by ref in the 22nd minute of second half due to ref being fed up with behaviour of both sides!!

A very good game against our old friends from Farnham and played in a friendly hand bag fashion with no problems on either side. In fact when one of our chaps went off with a hamstring problem Farnham very kindly lent us one of their spare players. That establishes the good spirit that prevailed throughout the game.

However after 22 minute of the second half the referee decided he had had enough and called the game off and walked off the pitch to the bewilderment of both sides. Both sides were enjoying a good close game.

We must always respect the referees and although he did call the captains together on a couple of occasions there was no warning that he would call the game off.

Nowadays the referee has a battery of tools to keep control of a game including cards to warn players and to send players off and of course we have the sin bin.

On this occasion no such warnings were given and this was a great shame as both sides enjoyed the game and there was no hard feeling or dangerous play etc..

After the game both sides retired for a social few pints and bangers at The White Swan.

We had a good side out and both sides had experienced players and perhaps our own control could have been more prominent… we must take the lessons of last week on board.

All refs have to be cherished…..they are few and far between so let’s look forward !

The game was very evenly matched and it was always going to be one those breakaway tries that would result in either side winning

This is exactly what happened.

Suddenly from a loose maul Johno found the ball and went off on a run with Jamie scorching down on his side waiting for the final pass….the final pass never arrived and Johno went for the line. Fortunately he got through and scored a cracking try …he needed to score.

Ben converted and we were 7 points up …a score we just held until the end.

Jamie had a great run down the touchline and went over for a well earned try but the ref said he had a foot in the dead ball area and no try!

The opposition had a very useful fullback that caused our defence a lot of problems but there always seemed to be some good tackling put in by our backs and forwards.

We were well placed with a few guests players that beefed up the side as Roger, Martin , Ian Dave U et al were all away.

An unusual piece of line out work by the opposition amused me….they seem to hoist up their jumper and held him there for sometime before the ball was thrown in .

A good hearty game with Jonathan D and Johno obviously on a mission with poor old Saffa trying to keep them in order.

Ben played his usual smooth game at No 10 with Jamie and Frank in the centre making big hits and good runs

Big Haystack Nick made a number of good drives and one cracking run took him closely to the line but he turned and pulled a hamstring and that was the end of his game..

All in all we played well with a good set piece providing Matthew with good ball and also superb lineout play with Andrew making a few dashes down midfield.

Next game is this Sat PLEASE CALL IN TO CONFIRM AVAILABILTY

You will see some cracking action photos by Iron Man Tony….just look at the expressions …sums up the game rather well ….Slaps is also featured.
