Hi chaps
Well the game finally got going once the key had been found to open the changing that had half the tam locked inside….a very playful Tony Iron Man Bianchi checking out the locking device for the start of the season managed to lock us in….fortunately panic did not set in and the key holder was found!!!
You will see the photo Tony has taken that illustrate a few problems we have ….got to get the holding of the jumper right etc. what about the photos ….some classic ones !!….also Man of the Match well deserved for Martin
Our first game was played in good conditions. Sunny day, firm ground and clear sky….good support on the touchline and a very acceptable start to the season.
We played Grasshoppers, who train and practice twice a week and have a very experienced bunch of forwards, many are over the hill, but they know how to hide a ball and keep it…the rolling maul is their speciality and they trend to deprive us of the ball.
That said we only lost by 3 tries to 1 this is a vast improvement on our past results.
However, in the pub afterwards they did admit that we had a very good outside line and if we had obtained more possession then we could well have put quite a few points on.
We must now look forward knowing that we played well, our first game and a lot of players playing out of position and also new players as well so to perform as well as we did against a side that had 4 games under its belt was a very good result indeed.
Let’s look at our side last week
We had a good solid front row with Basher Malcolm, Bear Rupert, and “bang em up Woodsie with Scrumpy John playing half with Basher. In the steam room we hade the old faithful of Jump Steve C and Steve and Growler Matt. Back room was a lively one with “stuff em” Dave U, Dom the priest, and Johno Simon. Scrum half was our new chap Sam and outside we had Roger, Matt, Ian, Dave J, Jamie and Martin with another welcome new in the massive shape of Aussie Brad. With that type of team all we needed was the ball.
Next week Tony and I are confident we will be on a winning run……
The positional changed we made at half time made a great deal of difference and if Jamie’s superb try was very welcomed.
This week we are at home to Thamesians so please confirm now.
Running out of time but buy the Richmond and Twickenham times this week as they are featuring The Bulldogs RFC as a local club
Cheers
Colin/Tony
