Saturdays game was a reminder that we need more games under our belt.
Will called from the top of a bus to say he had left his contact lenses behind...he then had to go back to Tooting to get his lenses and set off for the ground in his poser Porsche. At least he joined the game with 20 mins to go! Woodsie also made a full game and likewise Speaker Dom kept the ref on his toes with his constant advice to the ref etc.
The game with Grasshoppers who certainly have changed since we last played them was a fairly robust one....their ladies on the touchline made glowing remarks about the ref, questioning both his parentage and his bedroom prowess!
We had a fairly good side but like Grasshoppers we had no qualified front row. But we had Matt, Simon and Peter who illustrated The Bulldog spirit and just mucked in and that was the front row sorted.Well done chaps. In fact there is attached a photo of Matt in the pub...sums it all up!
We had a fast outside line and Clarkie had shed about 2 stones and is now closing on Jamie...Big Dan was seen around the park with a high work output and Len , the leap, was very much in the front line making some very good charges up field. Martin our latest new player is really shaping up well and was unlucky on a few occasions .
Roger at outside half had his usual steady game but once or twice found himself without support and isolated. Dom had a similar experience by taking a quick tap penalty and running into the full oppo's pack!!l
Jamie had a number of good runs and in fact ran in a superb try under the posts. BUT the" blind linesman" ( Grasshopper man) seem to miss-judge the touchline by about 2 metres and put his hand up for being out of touch!! The ref. was very apologetic in the pub but that's the way things go.
We lost a game that we all realised we should have won.....we lost concentration for about 20 mins, started jabbering away and the result ...lost opportunities.
We had three easy penalties that would have given us 9 points...Roger's boot is working well... if you are not set up for a quick tap penalty then take the points!! basics!!!
The final score Grasshoppers 7 Bulldogs 0.
Man of the Match went to Jamie and girl of the match must go to Claire Jarret but it was close one between her and Dave's lovely girl friend Jenny
