Hi chaps
Our Saturday morning game against Hammersmith & Fulham was the type of fixture that from time to time we seem to come up against!
The team we played recently won the Middx Merit League cup! We had a third team match scheduled but their second team had no game...I wonder how many mixed in for a game with the "3rd's
Not to worry we put up a brave defence and the photos of the game taken by Iron Man will show exactly the how we played the game.
We were very much on the back feel most of the game and unable to provide a forward base to build on. Many player were playing out of position and my thanks to Matt and Peter for mucking in at second row....for Dave Jones moving from full back to wing forward to Basil playing on wing one moment and then wing forward the next.
Look at the photo sand you will see John , one of our new young players taking out his opposite number on the wing and putting him into touch.. ...he did show a few players up....tackling was not brilliant and we missed and half tackled too many times.
The oppo forwards were well drilled and very difficult to stop when the rolling maul went into action.....our outsides were more than a match for Hammersmith and if we could have create good ball for then the result would have been very different.
Having said that we can never expect on a sat. morning with hangovers, etc. to take on a well drilled top of the league side with spare 2nd team players standing by on the touchline.
We worked hard throughout the game and here are some great photos to show that...Bojangles in full flight,Basil about to make a tackle with Dave Jones breaking onto a jog in hot back up support,Steel Man side stepping and then being brought down, of Stuart clearing the ball and showing great determination ( MI think he practices those facial expression in front of a mirror) Jack and Ross launching into the ball carrier and Peter and Matt very prominent.
But when Dan went off injured it made a huge difference and without our No 8 we did find the game even harder.
Whilst Stuart summed up the Bulldog spirit with determination as per the photos Rupert also reflected the good old course rugby style that has been the mainstay of our game over the years. The photos illustrate that Rupert likes his vino and is breaking out here and there.....
The result was around 30 points to 0 but a good effort never the less,
Back at The White Swan it was good to see Arnie back in charge of the BBQ......AND WE ALL FINISHED DUP WITH A VERY ENJOYABLE DAY.
This week we are home to Feltham and as England are playing Italy at 4 o'clock we will go for an early k.o,.say about 2 to get back to see the game or at least most if it.
If that sounds OK to you chaps then PLEASE CONFIRM AVAILABILITY BY RETURN
