Hi chaps
What a fantastic game on Sat....everything was there.......a good opposition in the shape of High Wycombe who came down to play us at Marble Hill.... our new shirts , complements ion the White Swan and the massive pub group and also the landlord of the Britannia and The White Swan in the shape of the very fine centre Chris...who also won the Man of the Match award
High Wycombe turned up with two local giants...about 6ft 6" with web feet!...Lot of interbreeding in the shires!
This played havoc with our lineout jumpers and Dan had a few problem with jumping but having met his gorgeous girl friend after the game no comment is needed.
The photos by our candid cameraman , Tony , Iron Man, in The White Swan proves beyond any doubt that Dan apart from being a good No 8 also knows the art of good team selection and how important it is to sophisticated touchline support .......
The game was a great game with both sides able to win...but the two giants from High Wycombe and the rather heavy scrum ultimately came good and we were deprived of ball...talking of balls have a though for poor Woodsie who just had his snipped...also Jonathan , Chairman of Thamesians, also had the snip but his turned a bit nasty and became infected....if he offers you his soap in the shower.....
Back to the game.
A tremendous effort and great spirit prevailed throughout the afternoon and our outsides with so much pace we just waiting for good ball but with a heavy scrum against us and a lineout dominate by opposition giants our opportunities were rare. But when we did get them our outsides led by Alex really showed great pace....both Ian and Chris at centres moved the ball well and Mike , Steel man Bianchi at wing had some good attempts...Ross's tacking proved highly effective and Basil on the wing put in a good effort.
Mike at scrum half showed good Bulldog spirit and took no nonsense from his opposite number
the front five performed well and it is good to see Bull Patterson back and "cuddles" Malcolm creating havoc with the oppo. Simon , our own "hilly" is a solid regular performer tackling and a worker.....James and Clarkie in the back row backed dup the game and Clarkie was very prominent in many tidying up episode and sums up the Bulldog maxim ....no one gets past Clarkie
What more could we ask....but then the weather came down and a roiling mist came across the park and you will see from the attached photos that it really was coarse rugby.....kick ahead and loose the ball!!
A final result of just one two to three seemed like robbery but with the big boys away in the lineout...Steve and ;Lenny the Leap we did well.
Good company back at our clubhouse The White Swan and very much enjoyed by High Wycombe..Chris won the Ma of the Match award and well deserved....he scored our try!!
