Hi Chaps
The first expediontionary force of Bulldogs went North on Sat across the Great West Road, into Cowley and then deepest Uxbridge to be confronted with a different team to the one we played at home! Front row man was good and afew others coming back from injury from 1st team duty….
Full team of Bulldogs with 8 guests to complete the side. A muddy pitch that slowed down the game a little but upfront we had problems as their scrum was heavy and very solid and caused havoc in both the set pieces and when on a rolling maul…..Out side we were more or less evenly matched but did not get good ball so we were very much at a disadvantage.
Uxbridge scored a number of tries rapidly and we were very much on the back foot…the ref lost touch of the time and the first half went to over 47 mins and then in the second half we had a different ref ( Paul) by this time our front row had been knocked around a little and we were on the point of going for an uncontested scrum when Uxbridge agreed to change the props …by this time Callam had been flatten again and the old war injury of rib damage put him out of the game.
We tacked very well with Matt setting avery high count and deserving the Man of the Match award
It was a strange old game with one or two incidents with one of the oppo …largest player on the field sizing up as if he was more at home playing to the Queensbury rules rather then RFU!
The highlight was Brad’s very fine interception and running the length of the pitch to score under the post….this was partly due to the White Swan beefburger he had prior to leaving for Uxbridge!!! Jet propelled Aussie in full flight is quite something to see!!
Back to the clubhouse after a good performance on our part of 12 points to 27
Good clubhouse but oppo not up to speed with Bulldog type hospitality and a return to The White Swan was overwhelming voted for after a few pints and no sign of the oppo….
By this time it was a dark evening and finding our way back did involve a few cars getting lost
One player could be heard muttering “ I am paid £14k a month to kill little s+xts like you and I am of to Angola in a month and I don’t like you”
All good sport and it looks as if we will be loosing one of our forwards to the mercenary forces of Angola…..
Cheers
